My dentist 10 years ago took time to understand what I was saying and did something about it. He was patient enough to wait for me to actually get numb before working on me. Just a year ago, a terrible toothache pushed me to get over this hump. I had my teeth checked by a dentist referred by my wife’s friends. He did many attempts to inject me with novocain and after this, he said there are special dentists to address cases like the one I have and he referred me to a San Francisco dentist.
It only took a while for me to comfortable in this office and that was after I found out that they offer general anesthesia for dental works. I could not remember the duration of the entire procedure. If general anesthesia was taken out of the procedure, I would be needing four separate visits and that does not sound good. I didn’t get sick from the general anesthesia, but I had to sleep the whole day afterward. My wife had three days of feeling sick after removal of four wisdom teeth under general anesthesia. My insurance covered the entire workup except for the sedation and the cost they paid was approximately $1000. Nevertheless, one of the teeth has to be operated on by a different dentist including a separate sedation and this will cost an extra $1,200.
Thus, I maxed out my insurance that year so easily. The next time I get dental trouble, I might do the same. If they opted to use local anesthesia on me instead, I must have left before they started doing the procedure. Because the major procedure was done, all I need to go back to the dentist for is the teeth cleaning which now has nothing to do with needles. But the dread for dental procedures will probably stay.
