The Other Side of Answered Prayer and Psalm 20
Psalm 20 reads as follows from the New King James version of the Bible:
1 May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble;
May the name of the God of Jacob defend you;
2 May He send you help from the sanctuary,
And strengthen you out of Zion;
3 May He remember all your offerings,
And accept your burnt sacrifice. Selah
4 May He grant you according to your heart’s desire,
And fulfill all your purpose.
5 We will rejoice in your salvation,
And in the name of our God we will set up our banners!
May the LORD fulfill all your petitions.
6 Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed;
He will answer him from His holy heaven
With the saving strength of His right hand.
7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
8 They have bowed down and fallen;
But we have risen and stand upright.
9 Save, LORD!
May the King answer us when we call.
This psalm highlights the role of angels in the realm of answered prayer.
The help from the sanctuary is non material which opposes the later view of those who trusted in horses and chariots alone.
They did not seek the Lord and the help of his angels,
The help and support is a response to specific petitions.
This psalm very specifically states that the Lord will answer you according to your hearts desires and your plans.
There are keys that open the doors to answered prayer.
To a degree you may not admit to or know your plans or hearts desire, as their terms may also seem to far reaching and out of sight to have ample consideration even in your petitions.
What you really want can’t always be determined from what at first seems to be authentic petitioning to the Lord.
There can be a better sight of this connection in prayer only when at times the Lord brings you to the other side of your petitions into the answer.
You prayed for snow and a great storm appears. Your hearts desire and plan was for a giant snowfall although you crafted the request only towards snow.
Since the Lord is moving along the map of your hearts desires it is better to see what is happening and then realize that it is bestowing from the Lord’s view of your hearts desire, which has full accuracy.
The petition traveled along the road of your heart’s desire, a roadway that included massive snowfall which then took place or root in reality.
The road is symbolic of finding your way in the presence of the Lord.
In Mark Chapter 10 verse 52 it says
‘Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road”.
The other side of answered prayer includes a roadway where you can follow Jesus. This man was not only healed but he was also provided with a road to follow.
A ticket to a baseball game may mean a lot to someone or it may mean nothing. The desires are different.
In getting to the other side of answered prayer, keep a window peered to your heart’s desires, which may be somewhat unknown or unacknowledged by you.
What would you really want if you believed it possible?
Overtly trusting the mechanisms of society, in this case horses and chariots, isn’t going to work full throttle because horses and chariots do not know your heart’s desires.
Indeed they are to a degree useful, but they can’t be actively trusted as they do not know your plans and desires.
The Lord and the angels he sends do know your desires and wishes.
The angels that are present know your plans and know your wishes. That is how powerful they are. And they can act according to the purposes of the Lord according to your wishes.
Other means, which are of some use, like the horse and chariot, don’t have use to the level of warranting outright trust. Especially in terms of your fulfilling desires.
Setting up the victory banner is also symbolic. Answered prayer in a given area represents victory in that area. The Lord will not bring you to defeated realms. With the answer, you will have victory in this area.
The landing point, the other side of answered prayer, is the points where the Lord is glorified and his name is upheld.
You might think of the landing on the moon, representing a new frontier successfully found.
The other side of answered prayer will line up for the glory of God.
To ponder, with this psalm, is to reinvest in asking the Lord to see and guide your heart’s desires, plans, as you petition Him because that compass might be potentially unseen by you.
Ask the Lord to point out your heart’s desires and move according to them.
Of course you can craft specific requests, but you can go and make huge sweeping propositions in prayer as in the manner of interceding for nations and great causes because these are petitions of the heart and the petitions of the heart of the faithful comes with awesome power.
So far example, we see in Roman’s Chapter 10 and verse 1, that Paul cites that his heart’s desire is salvation for others, an intercession. This is a personal petition relating to his own heart’s desires, but a personal petition that is directed outside of him to the wider world and to others.
As you travel the road to answered prayer, ask the Lord to keep that window open to your hearts desires as you go along. It is also helpful to use themes in prayer. Take for example prosperity, normally thought of in terms of money, but you can ask the Lord to prosper your thinking in a given matter, prosper your understanding or enlightenment.
So add in with each request, that the Lord give you your heart’s desire in the area of the request, to lead you along those lines, and to increasingly reveal your heart’s desires, corresponding to the unveiling and manifesting answer, which may occur as an unfolding to the other side of answered prayer.
Have your specific prayer request, but also ask the Lord to bring about your heart’s desire with this, as a matter of an unfolding on the beginning of the road to answered prayer.
As part of your petitions, thank the Lord for your heart’s desires, even though you don’t fully see them yourself.
The other side of answered prayer in nuanced with an understanding from the Lord of what your heart’s desires are, an understanding that far surpasses your own understanding of what you want. This is why inanimate helps and aids, although useful, can bring you only so far along the road to what you really want, what you truly desire as the only keeper of the keys to your heart’s desires is the Lord himself.
